Teacher Says "I Quit!"
This teacher's goal for the students was to make them lifelong learners. He had been a teacher for many years, and gave students an education that was rewarding and enjoyable. He not only taught the students, but shaped them to be better adults. But then, the school system changed from creating lifelong learners to good test takers. School was once a place for fun as well as learning, but now it has changed into only work and no play. The school has turned into a "one size fits all curriculum", and this does not benefit the children in any way.
A one size fits all curriculum means that every child is treated the same. This shouldn't be the case though because some students have learning disabilities, or learn at a different pace than the other children, and they will not excel in school because of this way of learning. It isn't fair to them because some things are out of their control, and the school is doing nothing about it to help them learn.
I believe that this teacher is extremely brave to speak up like this. I'm sure that there are other teachers who share his perspective, but do not want to say anything or lose their jobs. This man cares so much about his students that he would put his job on the line in order to show the world how the school systems are changing in a bad way.
They school should really be shame on themselves. School has their own responsibilities and ethics to follow. They should not ruin or destroy the poor children in order to get fame and popularities.School has been a fun place for a lot of children. If they changed it into a just-working place without any fun, they may have negative effects on the children. They will not be motivated to go to school and learn. Learning is a process with fun and working at the same time, but not just working all the time. They will be stressed out! This teacher is really a good teacher. Some of the teachers I have met only focused on their work and get their wages on time. However, this teacher really want to help this children to become a mature and healthy adult. I really appreciate with what this man has done for the kids.If my school works in this curriculum, I will definitely QUIT SCHOOL and change to another good one!
ReplyDeleteReally feel inspired by the last second paragraph. Since the certain child has his or her own situation and personality, it is hard and wrong to treat and teach all the children exactly the same. Some children may need extra help but some can even help others. Teachers should know the differences.
ReplyDeleteHis comparison of being a life longer learner vs a good test taker is really interesting. Sometimes school gets caught up in preparing for a career, but only a career. Life is so much more than a career. Relationships between friends and parents cannot be strengthened through arithmetic. We need life long learners. It will benefit all of us as a race to be life long learners rather than good test takers.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your last paragraph any teacher that is willing to speak against the entire school board knowing it will probably cost them there job is extremely brave. They also might be a little bit crazy but brave.
